Five new forms of immediate communication have been proposed for “Telling Europe”. Purpose is to allow for artful and stimulating actions beyond borders, partly playful and transgressing the language barrier by articulation impressions without language.

These five forms have been promoted 2009 in a new, artful book in German language:

Philipp Sonntag: Ungereimtes und Gereimtes - mit malerischen Interpretationen von Sabine Kaemmel. Projekte Verlag Cornelius, Halle/Saale, ein Kunst(volles)buch 19.90 €, 147 Seiten, ISBN 978-3-86634-690-1, 2009.

A short outline of the five forms.

  1. Groan and moan, clear and cheer (in German: Grunztstück).

Using pantomime, as mime artists, we might try transgress language borders. Yet we are “outspoken”, we would have to put brakes to our urge of articulating “what we have to say”. That urge shall be best productive in this form. improvise a stage, a scene, and we have a theme, a message. And yet we wont talk, explain, express our spitit in words. Rather we:

  • groan and moan,
  • smile, cheer,
  • bare our teethe and snarl, sigh,
  • cry,
  • sing without words, engage in any animalistic form of sound expression – and body expression, just as in common theatre.
  • look as in love in amorous and smitten forms, radiate with joy,
  • otherwise get our fits, bluster in uproar and violent temper,
  • be reticent, bent in pain,
  • we may do as if we have music instrruments and play them just indicating it by our sounds ov voice
  • display a complete scale of behaviour and according sounds, all the way between a suppressive mood and a benevolent mood.
  1. EMO / How to present my EMOtional Charge

Many things trample our nerves. While freaks of nature and whims of machinery may be notorious, still in most cases there is a human being behind the nerve-splitting actions. The cause may be neglect or even evil purpose. In both cases an Emotional Charge may very well trigger a second thought, and gently or harshly let the person consider a more gentlemen like behaviour.

A simple form of an EMO, to be copied and filled in:

Short form of EMOs according to: Philipp Sonntag: EMO Handbuch – So schreibe ich eine Emotionale Rechnung, Leonhard Thurneysser Verlag, 117 p., 2007.

We do not get accustomed to bad products, unsatisfactory service, public scandals, environmental pollutions and bad experiences within the private sector. It is bad. We launch an according protest with an EMO (Emotional Charge) in the form of a letter to the person or institute, that did cause the stress. EMO as a tool will illustrate the emotional protest in a dramatising, and yet conciliatory form.

The emotional charge will be immediate to the point of actual suffering. EMO is neither suitable for general accusations nor for crude blackmail. There is a person in charge for the stress, and so there shall be a charge presented to this person. Anything may be required, money, good deeds, at least understanding and apologies. Money is suitable, even though it is not expected, that the receiver of the EMO shall pay: Rather the amount of money presented within the EMO shall dEMOnstrate, how much would be needed for compensation, and thereby, what according amount of emotional stress has been caused.

EMO is a chapter “WiDuMi” in the book “Ungereimtes …” as mentioned above, and that is an excerpt out of the basic handbook:

Philipp Sonntag: Das EMO-Handbuch - So schreibe ich eine EMOtionale Rechnung. Thurneysser Verlag, PF 350532, 10214 Berlin, April 2007, 135 S. 11,80 €

The content displays a variety of applications:

3) Transparent Administration

There have been concerns expressed by civil rights activist, that stockpiling data would result in a complete monitoring of people’s electronic communications and trigger an unreasonable blanket suspicion on minorities within societies in general.

A counter strike would be to initialise a transparent administration: Any and all data as collected from and/or about citizen would be documented, and right along this documentation data would be added, displaying:

  • Who had collected and/or received any data, for what purpos
  • And who had processed and/or transferred them

Thus an person responsible for data processing of any kind would be traceable and would be in charge, to name explain the reason of the action. Thus there would be no misuse possible, without traceable causation. That would limit misuse to a large extent.

  1. Substitution of Terrorism by Deliberate, While Democratic Actions

Bossnapping, Kidnapping for a limited time is as far as one might go in a demonstration for plausible cause in politics or in society in general. If the idea – out of anger – is a bit too violent, an according short story might be better.

  1. Talkshow in the Future

The written drama of a talkshow, as can be seen in TV every day, yet in this case brought to our current century from the future by a able time machine navigator, does reveal a lot about the further development of current trends, about dangers and ways to “save the world”. It does invite a distant (societal) and yet close (in every day experience) viewpoint.

A basic theoretical foundation to these 5 and likewise forms of communications has been forwarded by Saul Alinsky, see:
