Sete dias após a Revolução de 25 de Abril de 1974, na pequena Vila de Pombal, situada entre as cidades de Leiria e Coimbra, o povo juntou-se no centro da Vila para comemorar efusivamente a Revolução dos Cravos que tinha acabado com 40 anos de ditadura.

Present Continuous! Workshop on memory and present of Europe

“Present Continuous! Workshop on memory and present of Europe” is a project under the Europe for Citizens programme of the European Commission, part of the measure 2.3 – Support to projects initiated by civil society organizations, inside the frame of action number 2 – Active Civil Society in Europe.

CESIE (Centro di Studi ed Iniziative Europeo) is the coordinating organisation and each of the other organisations included in the partnership sent to Palermo at least two participants, one older than 45 and the other one younger than 30.

During the workshop held in Palermo, 43 people from 16 different countries participated in different activities with the intergenerational contact between them as one of the more interesting points of the encounter, as among participants we could find a great variety of ages, from 18 to 80 years old.

The project idea came up after realizing about the need of understanding the current social situation of Europe, by knowing each country’s history, contrasting past facts with the current ideas nowadays.

The Video represents the different methods and activities we did throughout audiovisual material.

In this short video Erdmute tells an experience of belonging to Europe:
“Experiences of feeling part of Europe - Life experiences which have contributed to creating in us a sense of belonging to Europe!”
The story has been produced during the “Present Continuous! Workshop on memory and present of Europe”. It will nine days during which 43 people from 13 different countries will participate in different activities with the intergenerational contact between them as one of the more interesting points of the encounter.

The project idea came up after realizing about the need of understanding the current social situation of Europe, by knowing each country’s history, contrasting past facts with the current ideas nowadays. The event will be dedicated to know each partners’ country through non-formal education activities, using traditions, memories, proverbs, music, etc. related to historical times in their countries. These activities will be chosen according to the issues of war periods, peace, migrations and poverty, and will incorporate a reflexion on what means Europe today for citizens in their daily lives.

In the framework of the project "European Memories", Fundació Desenvolupament Comunitari (FDC) -http://www.desenvolupamentcomunitari.cat- have organized, together with “Memoro” -www.memoro.org- and “Entrepobles” -http://www.pangea.org/epueblos-, a serie of interviews of people living in Catalunya who have been strongly involved in social struggles in the last years or even decades.

The Social Catalan Forum (FSCat) -www.forumsocialcatala.cat-, held in Barcelona from the 27th to the 29th of January 2010, was the starting point of the process. The aim was to collect the memory of the social struggles developped in Catalunya the last 40 or 50 years, on the basis of the life stories of those people who were involved in that struggles and who are to-day still involved, through the FSCat Process.

In this way, the memory is not only an archive, but also and directly a tool for social transformation. Indeed, we believe that the stories of the people, remembered and shared by a group of activists, get a strong power as good exemples. Therefore, they can feed and articulate the struggles to come, hence, they have a power of creative transformation.

In this movie, you will find 25 people interviews abstracts, which give an overview of the struggles in Catalunya during the last decades. We also have the orginal interviews, which are much longer. They will be downloaded in this web page and in some others in a very next future. These 25 people have been selected according to the criteria of "diversity", i.e they represent different struggles, ages, gender, etc... for sure there are people well known in Catalunya and others, less known, who are not in the movie and who would have definitively desserved the right to be there. It was not our intention to make any discrimation, but the element "chance" made that we interviewed some people and didn't interview some others. In any case, our intention is to continue this exercice, since "the more memory, the better !" and to interview all those who are significant in Catalunya for their long history of social struggle, as well as many others, maybe not so famous, who definitely made a contribute to the peace building.

A quest vídeo és el resultat de diferents iniciatives i va ser produït per dos voluntaris de l’EVS (Servei Voluntari Europeu) i sol·licitants d’asil que viuen a Eslovènia.  Els protagonistes d’aquesta història són persones que van passar un dia junts: el 17 d’octubre de 2009.

No teníem electricitat, només llums de gas i així, a iniciativa dels líders del barri, va començar la preparació per a l’estesa de la xarxa elèctrica. Per fer-ho, havíem de recollir olles de coure i dur-les a la fàbrica

Nel 2004 grazie alla nostra amica Nora Frey facemmo un bellissiomo viaggio in Argentina. Mio figlio Simone fece due video il primo già presnte con il titolo Argentina e questo Argentina II parte. Fu un viaggio memorabile. Dalle cascate di Iguazu alle Missioni (distrutte dai portoghesi) ricorda il film Mission, alla scuola finanziata con l'aiuto dell'associazione Mirando il sur. Grazie Nora.
